It is our great pleasure to invite you to the 30th International Conference on Plastic Optical Fibers (POF 2022), which will be held in Bilbao (Spain) from September 26 to 28. Once again, as in the POF’2011 conference, the venue will be the cosy center for national and international events BIZKAIA ARETOA, of the University of the Basque Country.  Bilbao is a welcoming and beautiful town, which also offers a wide array of leisure-time options. Besides, this area holds several key industrial sectors including aeronautics, electronics and information technology.

The objective & scope of the conference is to discuss the latest developments of POFs and a variety of POF-related applications. With the development of Internet-of-Things (IoT), internet traffic continues to grow rapidly as the increase of network-connected smartphones, tablets, televisions, etc. This traffic growth will be significantly accelerated by the proliferation of ultrahigh definition (UHD) technologies for a variety of applications.

In this trend, POF is the promising medium for the data transmission in household, datacenter, automobile/airplane, and hospital, etc. POF can be vital for improving infrastructure for the UHD broadcasting and next-generation mobile communication system (5G). Another important field for POF application is sensors which have become tremendously important for various applications such as disaster countermeasures and sensing of constructions. Thus, POFs have been rapidly developed in these years from the point of view of material, fabrication, and characteristics for the various applications. In POF2022, we will provide an international forum to introduce and discuss these cutting-edge POF technologies.
